Sadly, the city of Sienna was one of our shortest stays, so we didn’t have a lot of time to explore this charming town. We were only there for two nights and one full day was spent on another tour in the wine country. What little we saw of it was spectacular though. It made us kinda giddy that we could see the top of the incredible Sienna Cathedral at the center of the city just by looking out the window of our hotel, the Pensione Palazzo Ravizza.

When we arrived we headed out right away to explore the major sites. First stop – the Piazza del Campo which is home to the “Palio di Siena” a world renown annual horse race that dates back to the middle ages. It’s especially unique in that the riders compete bareback. How crazy is that? The audience stands in the middle of the plaza and the horses run in a big circle around them during the competition.

The Sienna Cathedral was truly stunning. The beautiful detail and black and striped facade make it an awesome stand out among the brickwork buildings in the rest of the town.

One of the main reasons we chose the Pensione Palazzo Ravizza for our stay was this amazing back patio. We sat out there on our first night and enjoyed one of the most incredible sunsets we’d ever seen.

I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again – the light in Tuscany is UNREAL. Like nothing I’ve ever seen.

One of our favorite adventures of our entire trip was our Viator Vespa Tour! I look very cute in this photo, but I was actually too scared to drive one on my own so I just road on the back of Ryan’s. The tour took us through the Tuscan countryside with stops in several beautiful old towns and a working Chianti vineyard for an amazing lunch and wine tasting. It was the most delightful way to experience this incredible region. So much fun and way better than watching the scenery pass by through the windows of a bus!

The steps of this beautiful church were the only thing left when the area was destroyed during the war. When the town rebuilt, they left the original steps in place, making them the oldest piece of this ancient town. That little piece of history deserved it’s own photo-op of course :-)

Vespa Selfie!

Don’t worry. My glass was full of water ;-)

We ate A LOT of gelato on our trip, but the tasty treats we had in the ancient hill town of Monteriggioni, were THE BEST.

Next stop: Magical Venice!
