Two days after our wedding, we began our very first adventure as husband and wife! As we grabbed our passports and boarded our plane to depart for a fairy tale honeymoon in London and Paris, we had no idea that it would also be the start of another amazing journey – becoming photographers.
We were just a couple of love struck kids, exploring every wonder that these two beautiful and iconic cities had to offer. In London, we ate in pubs, posed in iconic red phone booths and got lost in quaint little neighborhoods for hours. We walked along Abbey Road, took a tour on a double-decker bus and even got a few laughs from some locals when we didn’t realize that we had to point our umbrella INTO the chilly English winds.
I’d been dreaming about Paris since the first time I saw Sabrina as a kid. Paris IS always a good idea ;-) I’ll never forget the moment we were cuddled up on the metro and we got our first glance of the Eiffel Tower. Nothing has ever been so surreal as standing beneath something we’d seen in the movies a thousand times. We explored the the cobble stone streets of Montmartre (what would become our favorite Parisian neighborhood) and took in room after room of century old art at the Lourve. Every moment was magical.
We were so completely in awe of the world around us and didn’t want a single moment of it to fade. It was the first time we truly realized that photographs could be more than just snapshots – they were moments captured and memories preserved. And on top of that, taking photos of our journey was incredibly FUN!
Here’s a collection of some of our favorite images from the trip. (Keep in mind that these were all shot almost 10 years ago with a point and shoot camera that had less megapixels than the latest iPhone camera. Ha ha! A lot had changed since then.)
Big Ben
Buckingham Gardens
Ryan surprised me with a trail ride through Hyde Park! Having grown up competing in show jumping competitions, I felt right at home in an English Saddle :-)
I got a kick out of seeing my cute new hubby in riding gear too! Best.Surprise.Ever!
The London Eye
Inside the London Eye
Our favorite Tube station – apparently we were fans of gorgeous natural light even then.
Our first stop in Paris – the Eiffel Tower! Even then, we were starting to stretch our creative muscles. I was watching for traffic while Ryan was laying in the street to get this photo from a low angle – a maneuver we’ve repeated many times since then ;-)
A little sun flare over our hotel in the business district of Paris.
My handsome hubby in front of the Lourve.
Until seeing it in person, you never realize that the Mona Lisa, undoubtedly the most famous painting in the world, is actually quite small. It sure does draw a crowd though.
Of course, Ryan wouldn’t settle for a far off shot – he wiggled his way to the front of the crowd to get a closer look.
Lunch in one of the museum’s cafes. Not sure why I was still wearing my audio tour guide around my neck. Ha ha!
We stumbled on this crazy winding staircase mural on our way up from the underground tube station. We wondered why nobody else was taking the stairs until about halfway up the next 20 stories. When we emerged at the top, gasping for air, we still had to stop and take a photo so we’d never forget.
The Basilica of the Sacré Cœur (Sacred Heart)
Welcome to our new home! I wish.
It was the trip of a lifetime and we’re so glad we have the images we took to remember the beauty that we saw there. As we headed home to the states we were forming the foundation of our marriage and lives together. And soon, the creative passion inside of us that was first lit during our 12 days there would grow into the business that we are blessed to share almost 10 years later.
