Those of you who follow along with our adventures on social got a little peak of our trip to New York City in December! Between the pandemic and parenthood, it’s been a hot minute since we’ve been able to carve out a trip for just the two of us, especially when we we aren’t traveling to shoot a wedding. I celebrated the big 4-0 in early November so we wanted to make this trip really special. Unfortunately, Ryan’s milestone b-day took place in July of 2020 in the the middle of COVID lockdown, so we decided to do it up right and declare this our DOUBLE decade birthday celebration! We had hoped to find our way back overseas, but with the ever changing regulations, we opted to stay stateside. We settled on the “Big Apple” and it did NOT disappoint!
December is truly a magical time in Manhattan. The streets are filled with people bundled up in big winter coats and hats, pausing to admire the shop windows decked out in holiday lights and decor. Central park looked like a winter canvas, filled with colored leaves and chattering squirrels buzzing from tree to tree. We couldn’t help but hum along to the sound of a saxophone player crooning “Little Town of Bethlehem” as we wandered its tree lined paths. We got to experience the glimmer of the city lights from inside a glass top boat on a dinner cruise that took us under the Brooklyn Bridge and up to the feet of Lady Liberty herself. Our hearts soared with every song as we laughed and cried our way through Moulin Rouge on Broadway. We dinned, we drank, we grinned from ear to ear and adventured together hand in hand through one of our favorite cities. It was unforgettable to say the least. We made so many amazing memories.
And what kind of photographers would we be if we didn’t take a little bit of time out to get in FRONT of the camera to commemorate our grand adventure? We crossed over the Brooklyn Bridge and met with our photographer in the neighborhood affectionally known as “DUMBO” (Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass.) The views of the manhattan skyline from this spot across the East River were AMAZING. Armando (shooting on behalf of Flytographer) did a perfect job of capturing the essence of the city and we loved every minute of it. Here are a few of our favorites!
