A surprise proposal at Mastro’s City Hall by Scottsdale Proposal Photographers Ryan & Denise
Photographing surprise proposals is quickly becoming one of our favorite things! Our first one consisted of secretly hiding in the bushes at a beautiful resort. Jason & Idli’s special moment involved an even more elaborate plan! We actually didn’t even get to meet Jason until the big event, but his sweet friend Jackie who was handling all of the behind the scenes details kept us in the loop and made sure every thing was in place.

The big night arrived and we showed up early so we could check in and get settled before Jason & Idli’s 6:30pm reservation at Mastro’s City Hall Steakhouse in Scottsdale. I have to admit, we had some doubts going into the evening about whether or not the restaurant staff would be very helpful in carrying out Jason’s plans. And who could blame them if they weren’t? It was a busy Saturday night and they had about 1,000 patrons to serve. We were so glad to discover that was not the case at all. We could NOT have been more impressed with all of them! The manager Jes and his staff were SO incredible and were just as concerned as we were about making sure the surprise went off without a hitch. They went above an beyond in every way. Such a testament to an establishment that truly cares for it’s customers. AND we had the chance to enjoy a yummy steak dinner of our own while we were there and the food is as amazing as the service. We’ll be back for sure!
When the happy couple arrived, Jes greeted them with some exciting news. He let them know that they had been chosen for a special honor! They were the 3 millionth customer to book their reservation using Open Table and because of that they had won a night of VIP treatment! (Jason, of course, already knew that this story was just an excuse for some special surprises for his lovely gal, but it worked out to be the perfect cover – AND a great way to throw her off if she started to suspect something.)
That’s were we came in! After Jes showed them to their VIP table adorned with a gorgeous bouquet of roses, I stopped by to introduce myself, telling them that the restaurant had hired me to take some photos of their 3 millionth customer for their website and facebook page. I was even armed with some very official looking “release forms” for them to sign, giving the restaurant permission to shared their photos online. (So sneaky!)
Jes returned to take them on a behind the scenes tour of the restaurant. They even got to meet the chef who was kind enough to pause his hard work for a little photo op.
They headed back to their table to enjoy a four course meal and we hung out in the lounge to wait for the the big moment to arrive. Jackie had asked us to coordinate with the singer and piano player in the lounge and arrange for them to play a couple of special songs as dessert was delivered to their table – “LOVE” by Nat King Cole and “I Swear” by All 4 One.
The music began to play and this special treat was delivered to their table …
Ildi’s reaction was priceless! She had no idea!
So happy!
Love that Ryan and I were able to capture both of their expressions as he put the ring on her finger :-)
And of course, she said yes! YAY!!!!
These two were SO cute together we just had to steal them away for a a few quick photos after they feasted on their delicious dessert.
Congratulations Jason & Ildi! We loved being a part of such a wonderful moment! Thank you for sharing it with us and we’re so happy for you guys! And a big shout out to Jackie for helping put all this together and Jes and the staff at Mastro’s City Hall Steakhouse in Scottsdale for ensuring everything was perfect.
